In this blog post I’m gonna walk you through how to create a digital vision board. But, before we even get into that. This is my first blog post of the year and my first time writing a blog post!! *WOOT WOOT*
Oh Yeah Woot Woot GIFfrom Oh Yeah GIFs
Since we’re in January I figured you might still be struggling with/figuring out your goals for the year…and I am here to help! I am NOT a BIG fan of New Year’s Resolutions! But I am a HUGE fan of setting achievable goals for the year. I think the famous quote goes something like this:
“If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail!”
With that being said, I am a very visual person, so I enjoy the practice of placing my yearly plans on a vision board and I’m here to show you my process.

What is a Vision Board?
It is a collage of pictures and quotes that help to visualize the life you want.
Forms of Vision Boards
Physical:
This board is made from a foam board, bristle board or made in a notebook. Your pictures and designs are attached to the board using glue or some sort of adhesive. It’s like a mini arts and craft project!
You can even turn it into an event with friends and/or family to make it more fun. Tell everyone BYOB and call it “Vision Board with a Twist.” (you can thank me later for that idea) *wink wink*
If you’re interested in how I create my physical vision boards, here’s a video to show you just how I get them done.
Digital:
This board is made on your phone or computer. You can literally take this board any and everywhere with you…unless you plan on deep diving in the ocean! But who’s really pulling out their phone in the middle of the ocean to look at their vision board, right?
For the purposes of this blog post I will focus on creating digital vision boards. All the information I provide in this post is covered in a detailed tutorial; so, if you’re more of a visual person, here’s the video!
Types of Vision Boards
Lifestyle:
This is a board focused on your long term goals. Long term goals are the aims/intentions that you would like to attain within the next 5-10 years
Yearly:
This is a board focused on your short term goals. Short term goals are the aims/intentions that you would like to attain within 1-2 years.
Why should you create a vision board?
- to declutter your mind
- to provide a visual representation of your goals
- to motivate you daily
Steps on How To create a digital vision board:
Step 1: Create a list of Ideas or Topics or Themes.

Step 2: Utilize Pinterest’s search engine to find pictures and inspiration for your board.
Here’s how to use Pinterest to create your digital vision board:
- Create a Pinterest account (it’s free!)
- Create a Board on Pinterest called “Vision Board”. This is where you will place all your pictures and quotes for your board.
- Use your list of themes and ideas, created in Step 1, to utilize Pinterest’s search engine to find the pictures and quotes that correspond to your themes.
- Pin all the pictures that appeal to you and match your themes to the Pinterest board you created.
Once you’ve pinned all the pictures to your Pinterest board, you are ready to create the template and design your digital vision board! Just download the images from your Pinterest Board and move to the next step.
Step 3: Canva will be used to create a layout and design your board.
You have two options when creating your layout:
Option 1:
Canva has built-in grids that are available if you would like your pictures neatly and evenly spaced.
…ORRRRR…
Option 2:
You can wing it, forget about order and design your board according to your liking.
Here are 4 suggestions on how to create your vision board without the built-in CANVA grids:
- place your pictures on your board haphazardly by resizing your images until they all fit
- group your pictures based on the themes you created
- create a pattern of your choice (example: place a quote after every picture)

Once you’re done with designing your board, save your image as a png onto your computer. Then make the image your desktop image.
VOILA!
Now every time you turn on your desktop you will be reminded of your goals!
